It is the month for weddings. Saturday, I attended the wedding of a dear family friend. I was reminded of the hope and joy that weddings bring to our lives. I listened to the vows. Little do those two young people know what is ahead of them. But whatever may come, they vowed to be together.
I also had the pleasure of visiting the scene of my wedding 30 years ago this weekend. Sacred Heart Chapel at Marygrove University in Detroit seemed smaller somehow to me this visit. I remember it as being more imposing 30 years ago. Or maybe I was more unaware of what life would bring. Now I know more, more sorrow and grief, but also more joy. And the reason I am still standing and hopeful is that vows kept make life worth living.
